General discussion about Mazzy Star

hanwaker, here's the link Mike refers to.
The Hope photos in it are familiar ones (to me at least), including the thumbnail, which is a fake. Someone put it on Instagram and said it's an A.I. creation, not a real photo (though it looks real), but it doesn't look like Hope, anyway, imo, except vaguely, like an A.I. cousin maybe!

I don't check in here often enough. I'm at a popular Mazzy/Hope Facebook group I co-administer a lot more often (every day), but FB has started doing a rotten thing. A number of interviews I posted text and photos of there (similar to what I do here) have been removed by FB, mysteriously, something FB never used to do before, but has started doing. Luckily, interviews remain intact here at the .fr site!

Was looking through Mercai Japan, and came across this beautiful record. I love the simplicity, does anyone have a copy of this? I found it on a website i've been using called Neokyo, the seller also has an Opal record which I find cool.

https://neokyo.com/en/product/mercari/m83952471675 : link to the record!

PS. This is my first post so hi! :D

I didn't know that Five String Serenade/Under My Car had been released as a 7" vinyl single. I did some research and it looks like this record was only available through the Rough Trade Singles Club subscription programme in 1993. Here's a presentation of the Rough Trade Singles Club:

Join the fight to save the 7" single and enjoy a monthly delivery of fine and exclusive music at the same time by subscribing to the Rough Trade Singles Club. The Singles Club aims to preserve the unique thrill of rock's
simplest incarnation by supplying a swiftly-produced one-off record every four weeks, recorded by artists ranging from the talented but unknown to the highly collectable. Past contributions have come from Mercury Rev, Papa Sprain, Mazzy Star, Ultramarine, The Auteurs, Tindersticks and Blessed Ethel amongst many others."

For those interested, a few copies of the single are currently on sale on discogs at https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/1099246

I'm posting below rare photos of Mazzy Star taken by English photographer Andrew Catlin. They were originally posted to the Facebook Mazzy Star fan page by Bob Beatty and Connie Corona.
You can check out Andrew Catlin's instagram account and web site for more photos of Mazzy Star and
other '80, '90, and '00 artists. They include rare photos of Mazzy Star as well as photos that have been widely used for publicity purposes:

Here's the wikipedia page of Andrew Catling https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Catlin. It mentions that his work is held in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London.)

Here are some photos of the 1989 compilation LP that features the Opal (with Hope) studio version of 'Blue Flower'. Together with 'Ghost Highway' by Opal, this same recording found its way onto the 'She Hang's Brightly' LP the following year - albeit in remixed form and added tambourine. And of course a name change - both band and song title. The recording itself may date from 1988.

Opal/Mazzy Star didn't change the song title, they covered the song "Blue Flower" by the band Slapp Happy, which can be found on the album "Sort Of" (1972)

Yes. I meant the song title was changed/ corrected. As you can see in the photos, on this album (sleeve, inner and label) the song title is given as 'Slap Happy' for some reason. It's also credited as a 'Roback/ Smith' composition.
