INTERVIEWS/Articles (46) (Vintage), Mazzy Star 1988 to 1997

General discussion about Mazzy Star

Re: INTERVIEWS/Articles (32) (Vintage), Mazzy Star, 1989 to

Today I posted above in the main thread a "new" old interview: 1996, December issue, POP mag.. English translation from Swedish, plus the original Swedish.

Today I re-labeled another interview here that previously was a mystery 1990s article of unknown date and unknown magazine source. An Instagram post I came across today of the photo from it ID-ed the article as being from OPTION mag, January, 1991. The Instagram post also had a better quality photo, although it only had the Hope section of the photo and left out David. I've added the improved Hope pic. Unfortunately, we still lack a complete version of the article. It remains partial only.

Check the articles thread above for a "new" old one posted today:
"-1990, (unknown mag source and date), ARTICLE by ARION BERGER w. INTERVIEW content w. DAVID & HOPE"
It's placed sequentially as the last 1990 article.

1991, JAN., OPTION mag, interview w. HOPE & DAVID (complete. Posted above today)
"MAZZY STAR," by BRUCE WARREN

The first post of this article that was here was partial only as just a small portion of the article was available to me previously. Early yesterday I added a few minor corrections to the still partial article. But then later yesterday Instagram user @subculturalartifacts kindly sent me photos of the complete text from the mag pages (thank you). Also, the clear image of Hope is from @subculturalartifacts' photo. The full page photo, and the photo of David & Hope are from some other source I don't have info on. Photo credit: Emily Kintzi. You can find the complete article in the articles thread above in chronological order.

Hi all (or few as it seems these days),
I still poke my nose in here on occasion and only very rarely go to Hope’s site but did so today and found a link in one of the 2 ‘New’ sections to an article about ‘Fade Into You’ from Our Culture.
Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike: I came acriss that "Fade..." article a while back. I didn't think too much of it myself, but some others might enjoy reading it.

I added another "new" old interview today:

1993, OCTOBER issue, LES INROCKUPTIBLE (lesinrock) mag (France), INTERVIEW /Article with Hope & David. English translation from the French text. I include English and French text, both. I placed it chronologically with other interviews in the main interviews section on page 1 of this thread above. I recently found scans of hard copy pages of this article posted to Twitter by someone. I didn't have the article before. The translation's my own attempt using several translation services, plus French-English dictionaries. Hopefully Emma and other French speakers will find my attempt at an English version to be relatively okay.

The person who shared the article (Véro Servat, @histgeoblog) on Twitter had an unusual reason for sharing it. She's a former long-time employee of the Les Rockuptibles mag. In her Tweeted post, she tagged two music journalists she knows. She apparently Tweeted the article for them to see as an example of how unpleasant life can be for a journalist when assigned to interview a band as difficult and uncooperative as Mazzy Star reportedly was for this article! Her tweet with the article scans reads (ironically), QUOTE:
"Tweet Oct. 16, 2020 from Véro Servat @histgeoblog:
@nicolatavernier @bricabraque pour fêter vos vacances #MazzyStar dans le #50 des #Inrocks octobre 1993. Un grand moment de bonheur journalistique ;-)
[translation]:
@nicolatavernier @bricabraque to celebrate your holidays #MazzyStar in # 50 of #Inrocks October 1993. A great moment of journalistic happiness ;-)"

Also, Today I added 3 photos to another article here, one that previously just had text. Facebook group member Mark Blair sent me photos of his own hard copy pages of the interview from Strobe mag, Jan. 1997 showing the three photos.

I also added an improved photo to the NME interview, Oct. 9, 1993. And an improved photo to the Pop mag interv., Dec. 1996

I have quite a few "new" old live recordings of HS&TWI shows from 2002 & 2009-10, plus a 1984 Clay Allison I haven't yet added to the boots list here. I'm slowly getting around to doing it. Some are from Dimeadozen site and some were shared to me privately.

This .fr site remains the best site for archiving articles & recordings. So I'm glad Emma keeps it going. Thanks Emma. But it's like ghost town here compared to the popular Facebook group I'm one of the admins at.It has nearly 6,000 members. I used to be a FB skeptic, and still realize there are many good reasons to want avoid FB completely. But for fan groups, FB is where people flock to nowadays, including people with new info and new material to share. One of best things about the FB group is many band "insiders" [friends and associates of the band(s)] have joined, and some of those are great participants in the comments threads. For anyone interested in checking it out, the FB group is called "Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval Group" and is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/6071129794

Today I updated the 1994, OCT. 28, MAZZY STAR TV INTERVIEW, MUSIQUE PLUS TV CHANNEL, MONTREAL (TRANSCRIPTION) with an additional interview segment from the TV appearance previously missing which turned up on youtube, Dec. 2020. I've added my transcription of the additional interview portion to the original posting of the interview which you'll find posted chronologically in the main interviews section on page 1, above

Previously, videos available I knew of of this TV appearance were partial only, and were missing a section of interview. But recently, a complete video recording in higher quality of this TV appearance turned up from youtuber kns4evers, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TsoLEQFmrU .

Not only does it have the complete interview, it has live performances of two songs, "Bells Ring" and "Ride It On." Previously, I only knew of "Ride It On" from this set. Below, I've added text transcribed from the interview section that had been missing, It turns out it was the first part that was missing.

Hey all,

I check in here from time to time and check Hope’s site even less but under one of the two’New(s)’ bits is an interview with Hope in Rock and Roll Globe. The mention of the interview is dated Aug 2. I’m not on FB but likely y’all there know of this. Nothing particularly new in the interview.

Cheers,
Mike
