"Into Dust" - New compilation?

Postby Malavita » Fri Sep 07, 2018 7:48 pm

This forum brought up the very excellent"Things," so I went to Apple music to have a listen, and came across what appears to be a collection of acoustic studio takes and live tracks. Not 100% sure, but they sound to my ears like 90's-era recordings. We've heard alternate takes on that "Deep Cuts" weird label-sanctioned bootleg, so it's quite possible that these versions are already circulating, I haven't had a chance to compare yet, but it all sounds fantastic. I've never heard of the label, Vogon, and there isn't mention on any of the official social media, as far as I can tell. Maybe licensed by the former label without consent of Hope and David?

Here's the track listing:
1. Bells Ring (acoustic in-studio performance)
2. Into Dust (acoustic in-studio performance)
3. Halah (acoustic in-studio performance)
4. Flowers in December (Live)
5. Bells Ring (Live)
6. Blue Flower (Live)
7. Halah (Live)
8. So Tonight That I Might See (Live)

Thanks Malavita for alerting us to the new Mazzy Star "Into Dust" album. I was on vacation away from home and mostly away from the net for a month and learned of this news from your post when I got back.

Besides itunes/Apple Music, I see the album is available from some other digital retailers including 7-Digital which sells the album in lossless FLAC (CD quality) and 320 kbps MP3 and M4A formats. Spotify doesn't seem to be streaming it, but another music streaming site, Deezer, is streaming it free, here:

Here's a link for 7-Digital (U.S.) site's page for the album. It re-directs you to your local 7-Digital site if you don't live in the States:

I haven't yet compared these recordings to recordings I already had, but none of these sound identifiably familiar. It's possible none of them have surfaced before now. I like the studio ones here, plus "So Tonight..." best. Does anyone else here know if any of these recordings have turned up before?
