General discussion about Mazzy Star

if it's privacy concerns keeping you off FB, you could always open a "dummy" FB account that doesn't reveal too much about you.

I'll take your advice and open a "dummy" account to escape as much as possible Facebook's online tracking. I also consider downloading and installing a specific browser just for FB as I read that FB keeps following you through your browser even when you're outside its network (I'm paranoid, I know! :o ). Thanks for your explanation and your suggestion.

A few photos I received from David Morgan:

Thanks for posting the photos that David shared with you. I like the "humming bird" flyer!

Here is a nice photo of Hope I've never seen before:

I think it was taken at the same photo session as this one, which has been often used in the media.

Found this at fuckyeahmazzystar.tumblr.com. A concert poster from Mazzy Star's Copenhagen, June 4, 2000 show. I like it and was glad to find it mainly 'cause this Copenhagen gig is one of my fave
Mazzy live show recordings.

Alas and Hermesacat posted this unusual photo featuring Hope in a fire escape on one of the previous pages of this thread.

Also among Mazzy Star's unusual shots is this underwater photo of Hope.

This was shot in Hollywood, in the swimming pool of Star Trek's actor, Leonard Nimoy (Mr Spock! 8-) ).

Here's another shot of Hope with an unusual posture... Bowing to the audience? ;)

Image

Both photos were taken by music photographer Laura Levine as she spent several days shooting photos of Hope and David out in LA.

Besides the unusual photos above, L. Levine took more conventional pictures of Mazzy Star for music magazines, like this one.

L. Levine started her career as a music photographer by following the Athens and the Los Angeles underground music scenes. I like this B&W photo of David Roback and Kendra Smith. It was taken in New York after a Clay Alison show in 83.

Emma: Great pics. I don't recall seeing the colourized version of the swimming pool pic before, just the B & W one from the 2011 New Yorker article/rock photos collection. Nice. Not sure I've seen the one of Hope bowing either. I like it, & posted it to the FB fan group https://www.facebook.com/groups/6071129794/
citing you for finding it. While this site is "sleepy" re. frequent activity, the FB site is incredibly active & popular. People love FB Groups these days, apparently, & interacting on FB. I'm otherwise a reluctant FB user, but I figure "if you can't beat them, join them"! So, I've become pretty active over there lately. It just complements this site though. It's no replacement for it. Both sites are very useful, imo. mazzystar.free.fr has huge advantages & usefulness the FB one does not, especially when it comes to organized sections, collecting, & archiving, etc. This site wins hands down for that. In contrast, the FB Group is comprised of just one long thread of random posts. There's no organization whatsoever. It's a "mess," in that sense - but a fun mess, and is so interactive.

Here are some HQ pictures I obtained from various press agencies (getty, corbis, etc). These are the original files the way they were provided by the agencies. Click for fullsize

I think the biggest gem here is the 1990 shot by Laura Levine. Is that the highest quality old picture you're ever gonna find of Hope or what? Anyway, enjoy I guess.

Sage:
Excellent collection of HQ photos, including some I've never seen even in lower res. Many thanks for sharing. Laura Levine did take some very memorable photos. And I appreciate the added info as to where the photos came from, what shows, etc.

I can add the ones by Stefan de Batselier were likely shot in L.A., 1993, as an Uncut mag article from 2013 included one of the same photos as here, but in B & W, and captioned "Hope Sandoval in Los Angeles 1993."

Also, the three by Ebet Roberts with the date 10-21-94 must be from Mazzy Star's NYC gig at The Academy venue opening for JAMC. Gigs lists online list that gig for that date.

Scott Simpson, who recorded the 1990s Woody's show, will no doubt be pleased about the 4 photos identified as being from the Woody's show, as I'm not sure he's aware of them as pics from that gig.

Okay. I'll admit I've been hoarding the large photos of these pictures. When they first appeared, they were this large and then shrank for some reason. And I, dummy I was, kept the small photo of Hope in a peach dress, eyes closed, laying on the grass, instead of the high resolution photo. I deleted that one by mistake.

Anyway, this article has an additional photo of Hope (right-hand side) that I haven't been able to find. It is here in this magazine, but I only have a photo of it.

And the hoarded pictures of Hope. They're not new, just big(ger).
