A bit of a shocker recently, my most popular Mazzy Star youtube upload (it was receiving the most views per day of any of mine for a long while), The 1994 pro-shot video of their 5-song Br*dge Sch**l Benefit set, got suddenly & unexpectedly removed from yt. I was surprised a copyright claim from a company apparently connected to N*il Y**ng did it in. N*il founded both the Br*dge Sch**l, & its annual benefit concert.
It was the first time a Mazzy Star upload to yt by me had gotten forcibly removed, although Mazzy's livestreamed 2012 Coachella set, & I think the 2012 Primavera set too, had gotten blocked when I tried upping them. But a video getting blocked is different than having a video accepted & up for a while, then being removed due to a copyright complaint. Ones yt account doesn't get penalized over blocked videos, but it does get unjustly, imo, penalized, restricted, & threatened when forcible removals occur.
Other copyright holders/claimants (including, presumably, the band) had been happily collecting ad revenue from the upload for the past 1.5 years it had been up at yt without it receiving any complaints. So, it was a surprise to see it taken down at this late date after 18 months, & 133,000+ views, due to a copyright complaint -- perhaps doubly surprising a N*il Y**ng company may have been behind it.
But it's been successfully (touch wood) re-upped to a secondary yt account here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/Bobb99999999proving you can't keep a good Mazzy Star live video down for long!
I see other copyright holders (hopefully along with the band, who aren't listed specifically, but they never are. It's always intermediary companies that get shown at yt as copyright claimants) are claiming ad revenue from the new upload, & are apparently content having the video up generating revenue for them. There seem to be some copyright conflicts happening (disagreements between various claimants?) which may help explain the unfortunate take-down of the prior upload. With luck, this one will stay up.
I still view that video as one of my most valuable Mazzy Star recordings finds I've upped that weren't available at yt before. It would be a shame if it became unavailable to view there.
